All aboard the Reuter express...

When you hit a brick wall, usually it takes years to break through it. This time, only seven or eight years.
In the past several years I have been working on the Reuter family. First, it was my maternal grandfather, Jacob Stephen Reuter then, his father, Peter Reuter, so forth and so on. For twenty-five years it took me to break through that proverbial wall.

Tonight another hurdle jumped. All this time I had thought that Peter Gerhard Reuter was single, and never married, probably because he was only 45 when he died. However, Peter lived a full life in the short amount of time he was on this earth.

When Peter Gerhard Reuter was born on 11 December 1927, in Germany, his father, Franz Reuter, was 27 and his mother, Maria Lamberti Reuter, was 27. He immigrated to the United States with his Mother in 1930, when he was only two years old.[1]

Gerhard Lamperti was listed on the 1930 Federal Census, he was listed as the nephew to the Head of Household Noel Ostrand.  Agnes Ostrand (Reuter) was the wife of the Head of household, Mary Lamperti (Reuter)is listed as Sister-in-law, Frank Lamperti (Reuter) is listed as a brother in law, and  Anthony Ruder (Reuter), Jacob Ruder (Reuter) are both listed as brothers-in-law. [2]

In the United States 1940 Census, Peter was listed as son, living with his father Frank Reuter forty years old, and his mother Mary Reuter, forty years old. Living on Ft Hamilton Pkwy in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.[3

On Peter G Reuter's eighteenth birthday, 11 December 1945, he registered for the WWII draft. Peter's next of kin was Jack Reuter, listed as an Uncle.[4]

On the 14th of June in 1948, Peter enlisted in Jamaica, New York for the New York National Guard, he was twenty years old. He separated from duty on 8 December 1949 due to medical reasons. [5]

Peter was twenty-eight years old when he married Margaret Joan Carrigg on 18 June 1955. She was born on 10 July 1933, in Endicott, Broome County, New York. [6]

He died in February 1973 at the age of 45 and was buried in Johnson City, New York at Calvary Cemetary in Johnson City, Broome County, New York. [7]

I was able to find his obituary this evening, this is why I started researching this family this evening.
[8]

Peter Gerhard Reuter had no children listed in his obituary. His wife, Margeret Joan Carrigg died on 9 September 2019, she was 86 years old, had no children listed in her obituary.  Her obituary is as follows -

"Joan Morley was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on 9 September 2019, after a long illness with renal cancer. She battled the illness with courage, a positive attitude and always a bright smile. Joan was thrilled to have been able to celebrate her 86th birthday with family and friends on a truly joyous evening.

Joan graduated in the Class of 1951 from Union Endicott High School and started her career with IBM retiring after 25 years of service. She spent the balance of her life always committed to others and their needs.

She is predeceased by her husband, Peter Reuter and Alston Morley, parents Edward and Margaret Carrigg, brother, Richard Carrigg as well as a sister, Mary Ellyn Ogonosky.

She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Weber and her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Linda Carrigg along with several loving and devoted nieces and nephews. Mike, Ron, Lynne, Dianne, Billy, Michelle, Jason, Matt, and Kristen.

I have not found a copy of her obituary as of yet, this was attached to her find a grave record, but as soon as I do I will attach it to this record.
